The Office also features Wegmans brand products. I think more for authenticity than product placement. For instance, Wegmans brand cereal is on the fridge in the break room and there was one scene where the cast members were drinking WPOP.

Fans of Friday Night Lights (wife is a Texan, so its mandatory) may have picked up on the Applebees placements. Pretty well done. Coach Taylor and family hit it after games, some kids work there too. They don't use it too reverently and it works pretty well. All in all though, not a tactic that most brands have the courage to pull off well.

One way to go is have the product placement, but poke fun at the fact that it's part of the show by directing attention to it. Like Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey did with Verizon Wireless in an episode of 30 Rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d36wUmJGzvA

Or like Wayne and Garth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R22qigXhFjk

They poke fun, but it's still product placement, and a little less unwelcoming.

Maybe it's an SNL thing...
